DEC, or Digital Equipment Corporation, was a United States company centered around the computer industry, offering computer hardware, software, and services. The company was first established in 1957, operating until 1998 when they were acquired by Compaq. Despite ceasing to operate, DEC has been survived by HP Inc. and Hewlett Packard Enterprise who had acquired Compaq as Hewlett-Packard in 2002 before their split. While serving as a diverse manufacturer of various products and software, DEC was most well-known for their minicomputer products that came about in the 1960s. Their Programmed Data Processor (PDP) line brought DEC much success, the most well-received models being the PDP-8 and PDP-11.
